So, what’s been going on with the state of Check Off lately? It has been pretty quiet on the blog front, so let’s change that!

I’ve been getting a lot of feedback from the users of Check Off, and have been learning a lot about the customer base. Here are a few of the comments:

I want Check Off to move to the next line when I hit return

This is another often requested item. This will be in the next version of Check Off. There will be a preference to have return act the way you want.

When I edit the note text, my cursor often jumps to the end

Yes, this is annoying, and fixed in the next release. In fact it’s so annoying I’m going to wrap up development and do a quick dot release to get it out to folks.

I’d like a way to set a label on an item from the toolbar.

Done. In the can as movie people say. It’s in the next quick dot release.

I miss it being a menu bar app

Many people missed the 4.x functionality of Check Off being a menu bar app. People want it to quickly appear, do some quick editing or viewing, and get it out of the way. They don’t want menus and an icon in the dock.

In the next major release of Check Off this functionality will be back. There will be a preference to show the menu bar and icon in the Dock, but it will be off by default.

I’m aiming to have the quick dot release out to folks in about two weeks, baring any hiccups from the Apple store review.

I’ve had some questions via the blog comments about upgrading from an older version of Check Off.

(An aside, I read all the comments, and try to reply via an email from support @ chromedomesoftware.com – it’s best if you have a question to email me there).

I’ve debated a lot about how to approach this, and really can’t figure out a reasonable solution. I’ve priced Check Off at the lowest price I believe is sustainable to allow for future development of Check Off.

However, if you bought a version of Check Off around the December 2010/January 2011 timeframe (when I acquired it from Second Gear Software), send me an email at support @ chromedomesoftware.com and I will send you a redeem code so you can on the 5.0 version via the App Store.

I didn’t really comprehend how big the Mac App store is going to be until today, when a 19 year old teenage I meet at my old church youth group mentioned on Facebook today that she’s excited for the Mac app store launch tomorrow:

“Also, i’m SUPER excited the Mac App store comes out tomorrow!! Lucien, you might appreciate that. bahah”

I asked her why:

“I do appreciate that, I’m super excited too. Can I ask why? (research) ”

She replied:

“I’m just excited to see what the store has to offer, what apps will be available, how they run, what they can add to my mac hahah”

Some notes:

She got her Mac from a friend, and he’s told her about the Mac app store.

She has an iPod touch, so she knows how the app store concept works.

This says to me:

Young people don’t know about the listings of Mac software on the apple.com website.

She found out that the app store is coming to the Mac, and is super excited to see what apps are out there for her Mac.

She already has an iTunes account.

This thing is going to be huge people.. millions of people will be getting the Mac app store tomorrow, and will be looking and purchasing.

Maybe the app stores are what Apple built that North Carolina data center for.
